# Note Trash & Recovery

Learn how notes are safely deleted, restored from the trash, or permanently purged from your device.

## Soft Deleting Notes

- To delete a note, click the **Delete** trash icon in the note's action menu, or drag the note node to the trash bin in the folder tree.
- Deletions are "soft deletions": the file is moved to the **Trash** and is hidden from search results and graphs, but is not immediately destroyed.

## Restoring & Purging Notes

1. Navigate to the **Trash** page from the side navigation.
2. Review the list of recently deleted notes.
3. **Restore:** Select a note and click **Restore** to return it to its original folder location.
4. **Permanent Delete:** Click **Empty Trash** or select specific notes and click **Purge** to permanently delete the files from your browser cache and cloud storage.
