# Plans, Entitlements & Subscription Governance

Basalt Notes operates on a transparent **5-tier pricing model**. Local Markdown editing, local vault creation, and note ownership remain available on Free. Subscriptions unlock hosted sync, expanded storage, multi-meeting intelligence, developer automation surfaces, and team collaboration controls.

## Managing Your Subscription

- **Monthly vs Annual Billing**: Switch between monthly and annual billing intervals inside **Settings -> Billing & Usage** to save ~16.6% (approx. two months free per year).
- **Proration & Change Previews**: Preview exact prorations and immediate billing amounts before confirming upgrades or interval changes.
- **Upgrades & Downgrades**: Upgrades apply immediately upon confirmed payment. Downgrades take effect at the end of the current billing cycle, retaining your paid entitlements through the paid-through date.
- **Downgrade Behavior**: A plan downgrade does not invoke local-note deletion. Hosted data above the new allowance becomes read-only and exportable under the account retention policy rather than being silently removed by the downgrade operation.

## Team Workspace Governance

On the **Team & Collaboration** plan:
- **Role-Based Access Control (RBAC)**: Manage workspace owners, admins, and members.
- **Shared Decision Approvals**: Require multi-person review before confirming or superseding workspace decisions in Strata.
- **Audit Logs**: Inspect complete activity and access receipts across shared vaults.
